Responsibilities

  • Compliance & Reporting
  • Manage timely and accurate preparation, review, and filing of indirect tax returns (e.g., sales/use tax, VAT/GST, excise) across applicable jurisdictions
  • Oversee tax determinations and transactional support for sales, procurement, logistics, and intercompany activity
  • Maintain exemption certificate processes and documentation
  • Ensure proper indirect tax treatment within ERP and tax engines
  • Tax Planning & Advisory
  • Advise business stakeholders on indirect tax implications of new products, contracts, pricing structures, and supply chain changes
  • Identify opportunities to optimize indirect tax positions while managing risk
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and business expansions from an indirect tax perspective
  • Audit & Controversy
  • Lead indirect tax audits and inquiries, including data requests, responses, and settlements
  • Coordinate with external advisors and taxing authorities as required
  • Assess exposure and support reserve analysis and documentation
  • Process Improvement & Controls
  • Develop and enhance policies, procedures, and internal controls related to indirect taxes
  • Drive process automation and data quality improvements
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess business impact
  • Leadership & Collaboration
  • Manage and develop staff and/or coordinate work performed by shared service teams and external providers
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, IT, Supply Chain, and Operations to embed tax considerations into business processes
  • Prepare clear documentation and executive-level presentations on indirect tax matters

Requirements

  • Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or related field
  • 10-15+ years of progressive indirect tax experience in public accounting and/or industry
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. sales and use tax, VAT/GST, property tax and excise tax
  • Experience managing tax audits and interacting with taxing authorities
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex tax rules into practical business guidance
  • Preferred
  • CPA, JD, MST, or equivalent professional credential
  • Multinational or manufacturing experience
  • Familiarity with tax technology platforms and ERP systems
  • Experience with Vertex sales tax platform
  • Prior people or project management experience
