As a Power Hardware Engineer at Ciena, you will play a critical role in designing and delivering high‑performance power solutions that enable the world's most advanced packet optical transport, data center interconnect, and switching platforms. Working within a highly experienced hardware engineering organization, this role offers hands‑on technical impact, close collaboration across disciplines, and the opportunity to see designs progress from concept through manufacturing and into production. How you will make an impact: Develop product‑level power systems, subcomponent power designs, and circuit pack‑level power architectures for next‑generation platforms Contribute to high‑performance circuit pack power solutions, including schematic capture and layout collaboration with hardware design primes Design and support alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) power interface modules and platform cooling solutions Collaborate with hardware, mechanical, thermal, software, and systems engineering teams to resolve design, performance, and integration challenges Partner with external suppliers, procurement, and manufacturing teams to transition power hardware designs into production Verify system and subcomponent designs using engineering and production prototypes through hands‑on lab validation The must haves: Education: Graduated/graduating in 2026 from a Bachelor of Engineering degree with work‑term experience in system power and grounding design, power component circuit pack design, and product development lifecycle exposure Education: Postgraduate qualification in Electronics or Power Electronics Project Management: Demonstrated project management knowledge and strong work organization skills Laboratory Experience: Hands‑on experience with power laboratory test equipment, measurement techniques, and microelectronic power product development Design Tools: Familiarity with printed circuit board (PCB) schematic capture and layout tools Communication: Proven English written and verbal communication skills Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with mechanical, power, thermal, hardware, software, and systems engineering teams on platform development Power Topologies: Understanding of buck, boost, flyback, forward, resonant LLC converter topologies, and closed‑loop power supply control Hands‑On Skills: Ability to perform laboratory activities including soldering and printed circuit board rework Test Equipment: Experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators, and power supplies Simulation: Experience with simulation tools such as LTSpice and PSPICE
