The primary purpose of this position is: To enforce law, maintain law and order, preserve the peace, and protect life and civil rights within the jurisdiction of the military installation. This is a developmental position with known promotion potential to the target position of SCPD 9GP59, Police Officer, GS-0083-04. Incumbent works closely with the supervisor in performing duties identified in the full performance standard core personnel document/core document. This position may be filled at the GS-03 with promotion to the GS-04 or at the GS-04. The individual selected for this position may be promoted to the target level without further competition upon meeting any legal and regulatory requirements. In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS Police Series 0083. Conditions of Employment (cont'd): Must pass an initial pre-employment medical examination, periodic medical examinations, required physical fitness/physical agility tests, meet established hearing standards and discern colors, contrast, and depth. The incumbent must immediately report to his supervisor any significant medical threshold shifts in health status and/or medication requirements. Must wear a uniform and meet applicable dress and appearance standards as identified in current DAFI. May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, to include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, rotating shifts, and recall. May be required to wear protective clothing such as coats, boots, and vests and/or chemical protective equipment, (e.g. respirator mask). Incumbent must be able to operate all Security Forces Vehicles and installed equipment. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position. Subject to annual duty position evaluation on a pass/fail standard. Must pass formal law enforcement training school as determined by functional; certificate from a Federally recognized Law Enforcement Academy is preferred. Incumbent will be exposed to the day-to-day dangers associated with law enforcement and security duties. Incumbent is required to obtain first responder training/certifications required in CPR techniques, self aid buddy care, and first aid on the job and maintain annually. Recurring training is required to keep the incumbent knowledgeable on the updated specialized tactics, techniques and procedures necessary for preparation and response to catastrophic events, terrorist attacks and related threats to installations. Ability to employ 'infantry/SWAT' small unit tactics involving fire and maneuver, with rapid advancing movement between defensive positions, while wearing protective gear for extended periods of time, (e.g. Employing "Active Shooter" response tactics and techniques as a member of a small team is required). This position may fall under the Standard Premium Pay Provisions under Title 5 USC. Key Position: The duties of this position meet all requirements as a category 4 designation, and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office to function effectively. This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and cannot become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve,"). GENERAL EXPERIENCE FOR GS-0083-03 (DEVELOPMENTAL): Applicants must have 6 months of general experience which includes experience in administrative, clerical, technical: or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed one year of study at an accredited school above the high school level with at least 6 semester hours of study pertinent to police work. Note: You must submit copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPIRENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. GENERAL/SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-0083-04 (FULLY QUALIFIED): Applicants must have 6 months of general work experience and 6 months specialized experience. General experience includes general experience includes experience in administrative, clerical, technical, or military work that involved protecting property, equipment, data, or materials; or that involved making judgments based on the application of directions, rules, regulations, or laws.
