About the role

The Support Shotfirer is responsible for the safe handling, preparation, and initiation of explosives under the direction of an appointed Shotfirer. Responsibilities

  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance of blasting equipment.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and audits related to blasting operations.
  • Collaborate with mining engineers and other Technical Services personnel to optimize blast design and sequencing.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior shotfirers or new team members.

  • Sound knowledge of explosives, blasting techniques, and safety regulations.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience with electronic initiation systems and blast design software
  • Competency in emergency response and first aid beyond basic certification

Job Description Reporting directly to the Drill & Blast Supervisor, you will play a key role in supporting safe and efficient blasting operations. This hands-on role involves loading and firing blast holes, monitoring compliance with site procedures and legislative requirements, and ensuring all blasting activities are conducted safely and effectively. You will also assist in monitoring the mining environment and inspecting post-drill and post-blast areas to ensure safety standards are maintained.
