Responsibilities and Duties Technical Skills, Leadership, and Problem Solving: Foster a culture built on our values: Respect, Learning, Do the Right Thing, WOW Service, and Fun. Provide professional, efficient, quality medical care and exceptional service to clients while maintaining maximum productivity. Ensure training is aligned with hospital protocols/policies and state regulations. Lead training session on clinical skills, emergency care, anesthesia, and diagnostics. Provide technical assistance and support to the veterinary team during emergency procedures. Act as a resource for troubleshooting complex cases, technician procedures, and equipment use. Ensure clinical competency technicians and assistants, providing hands-on training in areas such as anesthesia, patient monitoring, diagnostics, and emergency interventions. Oversee daily flow of ER and assign trained staff to cases to help make the day run smoothly with coordination with the ER doctor for the day. Enforce team member lunch breaks while keeping the flow of the ER moving. Ensure exemplary patient and client care is being provided. Maintain accurate records of team member skills lists, RECOVER and Fear Free certification, and online training to ensure all team members are participating and are being completed. Clearly communicate staffing shortages or callouts to team members. Provide ER training to both existing and new team members. Report training progress and performance outcomes to hospital leadership. Ensure established ER and ICU hospital protocols are being followed. Assist with de-escalation in the event of an upset client in the ER/ICU department. Restrain patients utilizing fear-free techniques. Create and maintain patient medical records and documentation. Obtain and prepare various samples including blood, urine, and fecal samples for diagnostic testing. Perform laboratory tests on samples using in-house IDEXX laboratory machines. Fill controlled and non-controlled prescriptions medications following Washington State laws. Administer medications in various routes following the Five Rights of Medication Administration. Instruct team members on various types of venipuncture such as intravenous catheters, central lines, sampling lines, and blood draws in the ER. Follow sedation and anesthesia protocols. Perform CPR following RECOVER guidelines. Perform advanced skills such as nasogastric tube, central line, nasal cannula and PICC line placement. Administer and monitor all transfusions. Perform ultrasound guided cystocentesis. Demonstrate critical thinking skills in a fast-paced ER environment. Monitor critical patients in an ER setting. Perform accurate medical math calculations of CRIs, injections, and medications. Ensure patient cleanliness. Maintain and monitor patient chest tubes and surgical drains. Maintain proper documentation using Cornerstone and Instinct. Monitor hospitalized patients for changes in vitals or mentation, notifying the DVM immediately. Enteral and parenteral medication administration. Support a practice environment that promotes collaboration and teamwork and ensure the delivery of quality, compassionate, effective, and efficient health care to pets. Comply with all practice policies, quality assurance guidelines, and standards of care. Assist in finding shift coverage if a callout occurs on shift. Communicate effectively with clinicians, hospital leadership, and staff. Assist department staff with daily, weekly, and monthly checklists. Assist with department inventory management.
