Responsibilities

  • Work closely with surgeons in providing patient care across the continuum (clinic, inpatient, operating room, trauma bay) by performing consultation, evaluation, and provisional management of the patient with general surgery needs or traumatic injuries.

Position Status: Full time Shift: First Shift (Days - Less than 12 hours per shift) (United States of America) Hours per week: 40 Job Information Exemption Status: Exempt A Brief Overview The General Surgery and Trauma Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an APRN or PA who provides advanced patient care based on educational preparation and/or certification to a specific patient population following established standards and practices. Care extends across the continuum including clinic, hospital, operating room, and trauma bay. This position may include day and evening hours, holidays, and weekends. Call may also be required. The APP assumes the management of patients, functioning in both an independent and collaborative role with the surgeons and other members of the health care team. The APP performs select procedures, designs individualized treatment plans, evaluates outcomes, and modifies the treatment plan as needed in accordance with established management protocols and regulating bodies. The APP facilitates the transition of patients between service units and provides/coordinates complex patient and family teaching. The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont-Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Education Qualifications Must be a graduate of an accredited PA/APRN program. Meets educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy. Experience Qualifications Experience with general surgery or trauma patient population. Preferred Experience with suturing, I&D, soft tissue lesion excision. Preferred Surgical first assist experience. Preferred Skills and Abilities All APRN incumbents are required to maintain Registered Nurse competencies as designated by Federal and State organizations and as outlined in SVH policy. (Required proficiency) Demonstrates and maintains expertise in the performance of selected procedures as specified by management protocols. (Required proficiency) Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to effectively present information in spoken and written format. (Required proficiency) Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse - KSBN Must have valid APRN licensure. Be certified as a nurse practitioner by a recognized national certifying body that has established standards for nurse practitioners. Required or Physician Assistant (PA) - KSBHA Required Additional certification may be required in certain patient care settings or populations. The department director will provide specific information and the time frame in which such certification may be attained at the time of hire/transfer into department. BLS, ACLS, PALS (may be obtained through RQI upon hire) ATLS (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
