About the role

As a Cx Controls Engineer on Fluidstack's data center team, you will own the full lifecycle of BMS (Building Management System) and EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring System) controls across our expanding portfolio of AI-grade facilities. This is not a maintenance role - you will be a technical lead shaping how Fluidstack's critical infrastructure is monitored, controlled, and continuously improved. You will work with highly motivated engineers and operators across construction, design, and site teams. You'll troubleshoot live systems, commission new facilities, develop control logic and GUIs, and drive the standards that govern how Fluidstack controls its fleet. Our data centers contain generators, UPS, electrical switchgear, PDUs, variable frequency drives, transfer switches, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and heat exchangers - all interacting via open and proprietary protocols. The BMS is the nervous system tying it together, and you will own it.

Responsibilities

  • Own troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for BMS and EPMS systems across Fluidstack's data center portfolio - maintaining continuous uptime for our AI compute customers.
  • Lead the full lifecycle of controls improvement projects: develop scopes of work, manage budgets and schedules, and drive execution from initial request through to final delivery and sign-off.
  • Develop, modify, and validate controls logic programming and graphical user interfaces, iterating on Sequences of Operations (SOO) with design and construction teams on new builds and retrofits.
  • Lead commissioning and validation efforts for new data center installations - including point-to-point verification, functional testing, and integrated systems testing of all BMS/EPMS systems.
  • Conduct regular site visits to supervise vendor performance, ensure compliance with Fluidstack design specifications, safety protocols, and local codes.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to internal operations and facilities teams on controls system operation, alarm management, and maintenance.
  • Manage procurement activities and vendor proposal reviews for controls-related scopes; support technical evaluation of new platforms and products.
  • Analyse maintenance results and service agreement performance quarterly; drive continuous improvement of system reliability and response across the fleet.
  • Develop and maintain Fluidstack's enterprise controls standards - naming conventions, alarming logic, SOO templates, and system architecture documentation.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience designing, configuring, programming, installing, and troubleshooting BMS and EPMS systems in data center or mission-critical environments.
  • Proficiency with application-specific controls software - Ignition, FactoryTalk, or equivalent SCADA/BMS platforms.
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols: BACnet, Modbus, TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, and IEC 61850.
  • Strong understanding of engineering documentation: P&IDs, BMS drawings, sequences of operations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Experience with data center mechanical and electrical systems: chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC, UPS, generators, switchgear, PDUs, and VFDs.
  • Proven track record cultivating strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, and vendors across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills - able to operate independently in fast-moving environments with high ambiguity.
  • Willingness to travel domestically at least 50% of the time, including extended site deployments during commissioning phases.
  • Experience with hyperscale or high-density GPU data center facilities.
  • Background in controls system architecture and enterprise-wide standards development.
  • Familiarity with DCIM platforms and digital twin or simulation tools for pre-deployment controls validation.
  • Certifications: PE, CxA, ISA CAP/CCST, or equivalent controls/commissioning cr

Additional Information

About Fluidstack We exist to make humanity more free. For most of human history, you farmed or you starved. Technology gave people more time for the things they wanted to do, instead of things they had to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built - but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. There are groups building AI who don't share these goals. Whoever deploys frontier compute infrastructure fastest will decide whether AI expands human freedom or shrinks it. We're singularly focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them - with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators. Come be a part of building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI. We hire people who care deeply about this problem space. If that is you, please apply!
