The assistant coach will work in coordination with the head coach in the operation of a NCAA Division II Men's & Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Program; maintain a thorough knowledge of, and abide by all NCAA, G-MAC and institutional rules and regulations. Failure to do so may lead to suspension or possible termination; attend all NCAA Compliance meetings as offered by the department; pass the NCAA recruiting examination annually; and is responsible for the actions of all assistant coaches, all program staff and the sport's compliance with NCAA rules. Essential Functions This position requires regular, predictable, reliable attendance in the office environment. 1. Assist in administering the intercollegiate program in compliance with the University, NCAA & G-MAC rules & regulations as required 2. Recommend & administer specific sports budget. 3. Participate in the public relations & promotion of the sports program. 4. Consult with various campus agencies as to eligibility, admission of student athletes, facilities needed, security, & financial aid. 5. Consult with student athlete as related to discipline, academic progress, personal growth. 6. Coordinate plan for physical conditioning & practice preparation. 7. Oversee practice sessions, pre-meet preparations and competition. 8. Developing a strategy for coaching during meets. 9. Evaluate talent of prospective student athletes, organization of home visits & phone contacts with prospect and family. 10. Perform necessary duties in relationship to fund raising through the Oilers Club. 11. Assist with planning and organization all aspects of team travel. 12. Report any violations of compliance regulations. 13. Ability to coach the student athletes in game and practice situations. 14. Assist in organizing a team that is competitive and representative of the University's philosophy and compatible with its mission. 15. Assisting with and planning of conditioning programs. 16. Assisting with the development of post-season and summer individual improvement programs. 17. Instruct assigned hours. 18. Meet recruiting goals. 19. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. In some situations, the noise level in the work environment can be loud. Physical Demands Walks, sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves continually during working hours. Is subject to lifting over 50 pounds. Must be able to lift raise or lower an object from one level to another (includes upward and pulling motion) of 50-75 lbs. and must be able to carry/transport an object/equipment weighing 50-75 lbs. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time 12-month position, and hours of work and days vary depending on athletic practice and competition schedule. Candidate must be available Sunday-Saturday. Travel This job requires travel with athletic team to competitions and events. A valid US Drivers' license with a safe driving record is required, and the energy and ability to travel. Some evening and weekend work, and some overnight travel are expectations of this position. Required Education and Experience 1. Bachelor's degree. 2. Three years of coaching experience at the collegiate level. 3. Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, rules and regulations of athletic associations and conferences including eligibility, recruiting and certification. 4. Candidate must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record. 5. Ability to objectively evaluate physical performance and mental capabilities related to the intercollegiate athletic program. 6. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public. 7. Strong organizational, oral and written communication, time management and interpersonal skills. 8. Ability to protect confidential information and present a professional demeanor. 9. Team-oriented individual with willingness to take initiative and be flexible, and the ability to work under occasional pressure. 10.
