About the role

We are hiring our first Business Development Representative to help to identify, engage, and qualify new customers through both outbound outreach and inbound leads. This is a highly visible, high-impact role for someone who wants to shape how we identify, engage, and qualify public-sector buyers and strategic partners. You will work closely with leadership to define messaging, target accounts, outreach strategy, and early sales process. Responsibilities

  • Pipeline Generation & Qualification
  • Research, target, and engage municipal, county, and agency stakeholders via outbound and inbound channels
  • Own first-touch outreach (email, phone, LinkedIn, events) and qualification conversations
  • Schedule and prepare high-quality meetings for Account Executives and senior leadership
  • Qualify leads against agreed-upon buying signals
  • Foundational Sales Ops & Process
  • Help define Obvio's early BDR playbook, including messaging, cadences, and qualification criteria
  • Maintain accurate data hygiene
  • Provide structured feedback on what resonates with prospects and where friction exists
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Product, GTM, and Leadership to refine positioning and go-to-market strategy
  • Support pilot programs, RFP tracking, and early partnership conversations as needed
  • Represent Obvio professionally with public-sector stakeholders

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in business development, sales, or a customer-facing role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort with outbound prospecting
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed
  • Excited to work in an early-stage, fast-moving environment
  • Experience selling into government, public sector, or regulated industries
  • Interest in public safety, civic tech, or infrastructure
  • Startup or founding-team experience
