About the role

We are seeking a Sr. Radiation Control Technician to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory ! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact for planning, coordinating, and resource managing in dynamic, high-hazard environments.
  • Perform the full range of RCT support activities, including high-hazard radiological work.
  • Develop and implement Radiological Work Control Packages (RWCPs) and ensure proper application of radiological controls.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to other technicians, including review and coordination of work.
  • Anticipate and resolve technical and operational problems, escalating when necessary.
  • Ensure customer requests for radiation protection are fulfilled while maintaining RP-1 priorities.
  • Demonstrate excellence in safety and compliance, serving as a role model for co-workers and customers.
  • Work independently, using ingenuity and creativity to solve complex problems.
  • Perform technical supervision and coordination responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience - High School Diploma and 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Experience supporting radiological activities and facilities, applying operational health physics principles.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection regulations including 10 CFR 835.
  • Ability to operate in high-hazard, dynamic, and challenging environments.
  • Capable of working rotating shifts, weekends, and 24/7 coverage as required.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and exercise judgment in complex situations.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and carry 35 lbs.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb, crawl, and reach overhead, horizontally, and downward.
  • Ability to use ladders (up to six feet) and stairways.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and communication capabilities.
  • Able to wear PPE, including respiratory protection.
  • Free from chronic wounds or rashes that prevent safe work in controlled areas.
