Responsibilities
- Provides daily clinical veterinary care (basic diagnostics and medical treatments) for laboratory rodents and maintains appropriate documentation.

- Provides general husbandry for laboratory rodents in research and breeding colonies when needed.
- On-call/on-site responsibilities for evening and weekends.
- Performs all other related duties, as assigned.
- Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and relevant experience typically attained with 5-7 years in a laboratory animal facility is preferred OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- An AALAS certification of LATg is required. Individuals who possess appropriate experience but do not have required AALAS certification must obtain Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATg) Certification within 12 months of assignment to this position.
- Licensed in Veterinary Technology preferred
- Must have knowledge of biology, behavior, and proper handling of laboratory rodents.
- Must be proficient with rodent procedures and have direct experience with PO, SQ, IM, IV, & IP injection, blood collection, use of anesthetics and analgesics, and provision of peri-operative care for routine procedures.
- Should possess basic knowledge of laboratory animal colony management, breeding, and health surveillance strategies
- Must be proficient in the use and maintenance of standard equipment within a research-based animal facility and be able to train others to operate the same equipment.
- Must be exceptionally organized and a strong communicator, with ability to maintain strong positive relationships with veterinary and scientific staff across multiple levels.
- Ability to work independently with as-needed supervision and guidance.
- Must have working knowledge of laboratory animal standards and guidelines (The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, AAALAC, etc.)
