Lead Graphic Designer

About the role

We're looking for a Lead Graphic Designer to set the creative bar for NordVPN and Nord Security brands and the team that designs for it. This role is 70% hands-on craft and 30% leadership of designers - you'll be deeply involved in the work, while also coaching, mentoring, and raising the ability of the team around you. You'll be accountable for whether the team's creative output meets the bar, whether marketing trusts our design partnership, whether the brand sees us as strategic. You'll partner with the Brand Design Lead on the cross-brand creative strategy questions that span the portfolio, contributing your perspective on what works for your audience and market. You'll hold both lines that define graphic design at Nord: brand integrity and conversion impact, and you'll know when each one matters more. Main Responsibilities Setting the visual quality and creative bar across marketing and brand projects for NordVPN and Nord Security brands Raising the concept-thinking ability of the designers around you through coaching, critique, and how clearly you set the bar for what good looks like Owning the creative quality of your team's output - your team's work is your responsibility, not just your own Partnering with the Brand Design Lead on creative strategy and cross-brand consistency questions Translating business briefs into clear creative direction that holds brand integrity while serving conversion Building the production conditions (file systems, tooling, handoff patterns) that let your team work at quality and speed Contributing hands-on to high-stakes work: campaign concepts, brand guidelines, anything that becomes a reference for the team Shaping how generative AI fits into the team's craft - prompt libraries, image treatment pipelines, ethical and brand guardrails Mentoring designers and contributing to hiring decisions Core Requirements 6+ years of experience in marketing design, branding, or creative agencies Experience leading or mentoring designers, formally or informally Strong visual design and art direction skills, with a portfolio that demonstrates both refined craft and conceptual depth Concept-thinking ability: you can take a brief from origination to outcome, not just execute on someone else's direction Working fluency with generative AI tools as part of your daily craft, with judgment about when AI is the right answer and when it isn't Ability to give clear, specific, and actionable feedback that teaches, not just corrects Strong understanding of brand systems and multi-channel design Ability to navigate the tension between brand consistency and conversion outcomes - and know when each one matters more Constructive in disagreement with marketers, copywriters, and brand stakeholders Excellent written and verbal English skills What will make you stand out Experience working with photography, photo editing, or compositing Illustration skills or experience guiding illustration styles Experience designing AI-assisted creative workflows for a team Understanding of 3D visuals or collaboration with 3D designers Experience working with large-scale or global brands Knowledge of the digital product environment Tools you'll use Figma Generative AI tools Full Adobe Suite
