Responsibilities

  • Assists in the design and layout of electrical substations, including equipment selection, sizing, and configuration. Ensures adherence to company or client standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, and procedures in preparing design drawings.
  • Ensures compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations in all substation designs and projects.
  • Prepares engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports for substation projects. Assist in the preparation and review of construction documents, including bills of materials and construction specifications.
  • Assists in the preparation of detailed engineering calculations including grounding, Alternating Current (AC) loading, Direct Current DC (Direct Current) loading, bus sizing, cable sizing, etc. following standard methods and principles to ensure the integrity and reliability of substation designs.
  • Assists in the evaluation and selection of substation equipment and materials.
  • Prepares and issues requests for material or services to potential suppliers, ensuring clear and comprehensive specifications and requirements.
  • Conducts site visits and inspections to assess existing substation conditions and identify potential issues.
  • Coordinates with external consultants, vendors, and contractors to ensure the successful execution of substation design projects.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, technicians, and project managers, to ensure project objectives are met. Support project managers in project planning, scheduling, and cost estimation.
  • Assists in the preparation of technical reports, proposals, and cost estimates for substation projects, outlining the scope, timeline, and resources required.
  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy's Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
  • Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering program that is accredited through the Engineering Accreditation Commission Required
  • Preferred Experience
  • Previous technical and/or professional experience
  • An internship or co-op in engineering
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
