Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: This role is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals as outlined on menus in accordance with applicable food service and safety regulations, while maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards. The role contributes to the broader mission and values of The Salvation Army, upholding standards of service that reflect its spiritual and social commitment to the community. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Incumbents may perform all, some, or similar range of duties as below. Prepares meals; may prepare for special dietary needs of the residents Adapts work practices within specific parameters to ensure the efficient delivery of food services Makes use of and decides on best use of resources, including donations to minimize waste Follows guidelines for the safety and security of food and equipment and monitors practices to ensure adherence May perform some employee supervisory duties in the absence of the Food Services Manager May supervises students, volunteers and / or residents in work therapy May order food supplies Performs other duties as assigned NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties. CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT: Internal: Ministry Unit leadership, kitchen staff External: Clients, vendors, volunteers MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports directly to the Food Services Manager The incumbent is responsible as a group/work leader. They are responsible for providing direction and checking results, but generally works along with those supervised. FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of their own resources. They may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget. WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent's work environment is typically in a kitchen in a ministry unit/social services facility. The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of standing, moderate amounts of lifting, cutting, chopping, carrying supplies and walking. The incumbent is required to lift more than 50 pounds. The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions: Dealing with angry people Verbal Abuse Hot/Steamy environment Noisy Crowded in some cases Pressure with timelines Cuts, Burns and entering freezers The incumbent is required to travel up to 30% of the time.
