Responsibilities

  • Use chainsaws and other specialized equipment to cut down trees safely, ensuring that each tree falls in the designated direction.
  • Conduct and follow daily falling plans.
  • Plan and assess each cut based on the tree's size, lean, and environmental factors to avoid hazards like falling branches or damage to surrounding vegetation.
  • Mark or flag trees that need to be felled and ensure safe escape routes are available for emergency situations.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and best practices to minimize the risk of injury or property damage.
  • Work with other team members, including spotters, loggers, and ground crew, to ensure coordinated operations and safety.
  • Communicate clearly with crew members regarding the progress of the job and any hazards on the site.
  • Inspect trees for hazards such as leaning or rot and decide on the safest felling strategy.
  • Identify potential environmental risks, such as nearby power lines, structures, or steep terrain.
  • After the tree is felled, assist with limbing (removing branches) and bucking (cutting the tree into logs) when necessary.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Knowledge and Skills Expectations:
  • Certified CAGC/BCFSC Faller.
  • Ability to traverse steep slopes and work for more than 7 hours a day.
  • Valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver's License with less than 6 demerits.
  • B.C. Intermediate or Advanced First Aid certification, or equivalent, would be considered an asset.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • A safety conscious attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to traverse steep slopes and work for more than 7 hours a day.
  • Ability to lift, move and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Punctuality, dependability, and accountability in the field.
  • The ability to work away from home for periods of time.
