What You Drive at DTNA Detroit Diesel Corporation seeks a Mechanical Product Design Engineer III based out of our office at 13400 Outer Drive West, Detroit, MI 48239. Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned office address. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned office address. Position requires up to 10% domestic/international travel annually. Job Duties: Act as a key interface between production, assembly, and quality in the areas of both alternative powertrains as well as conventional propulsion technologies (HV Battery, E-Axle, Engines, etc.) that are co-developed and/or produced in Redford. Lead the development and integration of powertrain components and systems for high-voltage (HV) batteries and combustion engines. Design HV battery systems and components, including handling and packaging of high-voltage elements. Perform noise and vibration (NVH) analysis to support refinement and durability targets. Collaborate with global and cross-functional teams in simulation, testing, certification/homologation, and manufacturing engineering to ensure product and process robustness. Design components with a focus on lifecycle, serviceability, and maintenance considerations. Drive continuous process and product improvements across HV battery and conventional engine programs. Manage relationships and development collaborations with internal stakeholders and external partners (suppliers, engineering services, and institutes). Document and communicate technical requirements, specifications, and engineering deliverables. Serve as the Detroit representative for ICM Process Management for all HV Battery-related change requests. Fulfill Engineering Deviation Approval (DA) assignments for Detroit, including maintenance of the responsible BTV list, assignment of tasks to global designers (Detroit, Stuttgart, Mannheim), and tracking of unapproved DA's . Support customer order coding resolution with Detroit Baumusters and assist in CAD data translations (conversion of 3D CAD data for external suppliers, marketing companies, etc.), ensuring proper Non-Disclosure Approvals are in place. Act as the engineering documentation contact for Detroit in matters related to certification, homologation, and safety-critical parts (including alternative propulsion hardware). Verify completeness regarding model and part numbers and perform final design checking for Detroit-released drawings. Knowledge You Should Bring Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering 5 years of relevant experience in the automotive industry. 5 years of experience in System Development and Component Design for HV Batteries, Diesel Engines and conventional/alternative powertrains for Class 8 Commercial Vehicles. 4 years of experience in HV Battery Design for Class 8 Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicles. 4 years of experience working on Service-Oriented Designs that consider Manufacturability and Serviceability. 2 Years of International Experience in Cross-Functional Engineering Areas. Experience with each of the following: NVH analysis (vibration and acoustics); Leading cross-functional improvement initiatives; Building global partnerships (e.g., suppliers, institutes); and Creating specification documents for major components (e.g., HV battery housing, Electric/Electronic Compartment).
