Stockdale Chair of Professional Military Ethics in the College of Leadership and Ethics (CLE). About the College of Leadership and Ethics: This position falls under the Dean of the College of Leadership and Ethics (CLE). CLE provides leader development across the Navy, Joint Force, DoW and partner nations by delivering the Leadership in the Profession of Arms (LPA) in residence core course, leadership electives, exportable Flag Development courses and Graduate Certificate Programs. CLE takes a multi-disciplinary approach in exploring the many fields of social science that make up leader development, adult learning, ethical decision-making, cognitive development and self-awareness. You can learn more about the College of Leadership and Ethics at our webpage: www.usnwc.edu/college-of-leadership-and-ethics Responsibilities: The Stockdale Chair is responsible for the development, administration and execution of the Naval War College Professional Military Ethics Program. Additionally assist in the design and delivery of CLE's Leadership in the Profession of Arms (LPA) course. Assist in the design and delivery of CLE's suite of Flag Officer Education courses. Plan and assist in the design and execution of ethics conference hosted by the Naval War College. Represent the Naval War College at ethics conferences and symposia globally, specifically addressing professional military ethics. Research and publish on the topic of professional military ethics. Establish a colloquium between other DoW PME institutions and academies to meet on a regular basis to share ideas, information, and best practices in educating students in professional military ethics. Act as a resource for Naval War College academic departments and colleges on curriculum development in the area of professional military ethics. Integrate professional military ethics throughout the Navy's Professional Military Education Continuum. Support the President of the U.S. Naval War College in executing responsibilities to the Chief of Naval Operations for oversight of military professional ethics development across Salary Considerations: Salary is competitive and is accompanied by a generous Federal Civil Service package that includes health insurance, pension and retirement saving plans (with employer matching contributions), paid vacation and sick leave, and other benefits. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and credentials in accordance with Department of the Navy Faculty Schedule. Appointment. This appointment is governed by provisions of 10 USC § 8748 as delegated by the Secretary of the Navy, and the regulations of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management that apply to "Excepted" appointments under Schedule A. For appointment at the rank of Professor (AD-7), the initial term of appointment is expected to be two years in length with provision for renewal dependent on performance. This is not a remote work position. Telework eligibility is limited and will be determined by the agency policy in accordance with Presidential Memorandum "Return to In-Person Work" of January 20, 2025, and DoW implementation guidance. The incumbent may be expected to travel on occasion. This is a non-tenure track appointment.
