  • Essential Duties:
  • Provides individual and group FYS academic advising and/or interacts with students in support of academic success
  • Executes strategic campaigns, events, outreach, advising, and engagement efforts to increase retention and persistence among the First-Year campus cohort for the New College
  • Leads and executes New Student Orientation and any events or efforts associated with onboarding (including ASU Welcome, College Assembly, Move-in and other college-specific events as assigned)
  • Facilitates multiple sections of NEW 101 as assigned
  • Supervises assigned Peer Academic Leader (PAL) in the residence hall and supports/mentors programming efforts as assigned
  • Monitors FYS student academic progress and program effectiveness using a variety of technology-based tools (such as DARS, Salesforce, and analytics software/tools), and the application of retention-focused strategies, and relevant advising/student development/engagement theories
  • Maintains an openness to new and developing tools utilized across the university to aid in student success and excellent service
  • Able to learn and use multiple systems at the same time (such as student record databases, customer relationship management systems, degree progress tools, appointment systems, analytics software/tools)
  • Utilizes collegial, interpersonal skills to communicate effectively in person, via email and by phone; establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships.-
  • Proactively monitors FYS student academic performance; addresses, responds to, and works to resolve student concerns, questions, or issues accurately and with empathy-
  • Acts as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective First-Year students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to First-Year academic success
  • Possesses a clear understanding of the larger picture of the college and/or departmental processes and expectations around the utilization of various tools and how they impact the student experience
  • Recognizes and resolves complex issues and/or escalates to leadership with potential solutions and appropriate judgment
  • Demonstrates an ability to think critically and use sound judgment to remove barriers to enrollment and overcome objections to encourage resilience in the First-Year persistence journey
  • Analyzes financial and academic challenges proactively to ensure timely progress to enrollment and course completion
  • Carefully encourages career path and major changes as appropriate in the first year. -
  • Advise students on university policies, procedures, and academic expectations, offering strategic problem-solving support for academic and personal challenges
  • Maintain accurate student records, generate reports, and provide data-driven insights to support student engagement and retention efforts
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with students, offering holistic support as they transition to and navigate university life
