This position is dispatched from the Surveyor's home, is usually only M-F, and has no shift, on-call, direct care, or holiday work. We are looking for a professional who thrives in a team environment, yet works well independently, to support the Department of Health and Human Service's mission to promote health and safety for all Maine people. Core Responsibilities: Lead a team of surveyors as you conduct inspections and investigate complaint allegations in acute-level providers such as hospitals, hospices, ambulatory surgical centers, and others; Interview complainants and witnesses to obtain information regarding complaint allegations; Perform record reviews and observations in facilities; Write reports known as "Statements of Deficiencies," which outline the rules/regulations that the facility failed to follow; Assist your team members to ensure Statements of Deficiencies comply with the requirements set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"); Participate in training, including mandatory online training required by CMS; Ensure that facilities comply with both federal and State licensing requirements Although you will be a Team Lead: You will not have to do annual performance reviews of your team members, and You will not have to do any other supervisory duties. This position does require statewide travel and occasional overnight stays; in addition, it may be necessary to conduct occasional early morning, night, or weekend survey work. Preferred candidates will ALSO have: Knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements for acute healthcare facilities; Experience working in acute healthcare settings; Demonstrated critical thinking skills; Knowledge of CMS software and CMS's Principles of Documentation; Ability to build and lead teams; Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills; and A valid driver's license.
