Your new role As our new Trainee Consultant, Data & AI for Public Policy, you will work with a dynamic and growing team on projects that focus on Europe's core policy objectives of competitiveness and sustainability. You will apply your analytical, AI, and automation skills across a wide range of sectors, including Energy, Transport & Infrastructure, Industry & Manufacturing, Water, and Buildings & Cities - using data, machine learning, and AI to support policy analysis, improve the use of evidence, and contribute to more efficient consulting workflows. The internship is expected to last between 2 and 6 months, depending on the applicable internship framework, candidate availability, and business needs. Candidates are invited to specify in their motivation letter the context of their internship, including whether it forms part of an academic programme or another recognised internship framework, as well as their preferred duration and availability. You will be part of Ramboll Management Consulting Belgium. Our multidisciplinary and multilingual department, headquartered in Brussels, collaborates extensively with EU institutions to support a green and just transition. We focus on policy-driven initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability, inclusivity, and competitiveness within various sectors. We specialise in projects that combine high-level strategy with deep technical expertise, where your skills in data science, machine learning, statistical analysis, and applied AI (including generative AI and workflow automation) will be highly relevant. You will work continuously with our colleagues across Ramboll, with access to a global pool of technical expertise throughout Europe and worldwide. Depending on proposal/project needs and your skills, your key responsibilities may include: Support selected components of the data science and AI lifecycle, from analytical design and data collection to data preparation, analysis, visualisation, prototyping, and documentation, under the guidance of senior colleagues. Assist with sourcing, processing, and managing structured and unstructured data, and contribute to the development of reproducible data workflows using tools such as APIs, web scraping, NLP/LLM techniques, and SQL databases. Support the development, testing, and interpretation of statistical and machine learning models, including classification, regression, and text analysis approaches. Contribute to translating analytical results into clear insights, visualisations, dashboards, and reports, using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Python/R reporting frameworks, for both technical and policy audiences. Contribute to the responsible use of generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) in consulting and policy work - for example, by supporting literature and regulatory reviews, structuring unstructured text, testing prompts, assisting with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) approaches, and contributing to prototypes of AI-assisted analytical tools. Help identify and implement opportunities to automate selected analytical and consulting processes - from reproducible data pipelines and scripted reporting to AI-assisted workflows - with the aim of improving the quality, speed, and consistency of our deliverables. Support consulting project delivery, including methodological design, desk research, data analysis, report writing, and preparation of findings for clients and stakeholders.
