Your new role In this role, you will lead QBE's global Security Operations function, overseeing 24/7 cyber incident response and ensuring strong governance, consistency, and effectiveness across all regions. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders to strengthen QBE's security posture, drive continuous improvement, and ensure the organisation is well prepared to respond to evolving cyber threats. Key responsibilities include: Leading global security operations and incident response services across a 24/7 environment Owning and driving consistent security operations and incident response processes across all regions Overseeing cyber incident management, including escalation, communication, and executive reporting Driving SOC2 Type II certification and ensuring ongoing compliance with security standards Developing and delivering clear reporting and metrics for executive leadership and the Board Leading continuous improvement initiatives aligned to NIST and industry best practice About you We're looking for a strong security leader who brings deep technical expertise alongside the ability to operate at a strategic level. You'll be comfortable leading global teams, managing complex incidents, and engaging with senior stakeholders, with a focus on driving outcomes and improving organisational resilience. Key requirements: Extensive experience in security operations, incident response, or broader cybersecurity functions Proven leadership experience managing global or distributed teams Strong technical understanding across security technologies, infrastructure, and cloud environments Experience operating within structured security frameworks (e.g. NIST, SOC2) Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership Strong decision-making capability, particularly in high-pressure incident response scenarios Technical competency: Working knowledge of SIEM platforms (e.g. detection, triage, correlation and alerting use cases) Understanding of AI-driven threat detection capabilities, with a willingness to adopt and mature capabilities in this area Strong grounding in network security principles (e.g. traffic analysis, intrusion detection, segmentation) Practical experience with cloud security across major platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS), including security controls and monitoring Ability to interpret and assess SaaS architectures and applications, including associated security risks Understanding of secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) and integration of DevSecOps practices into detection and response Ability to engage with engineering teams on technical design, vulnerabilities, and control effectiveness Soft skills: Demonstrated passion, commitment, and ownership for cyber defence operations and service delivery Willingness to support extended hours during major incidents (approx. 15% of time) to ensure effective resolution and leadership presence Strong customer service and stakeholder focus, ensuring high levels of satisfaction and trust across the business Positive and proactive attitude towards developing and mentoring emerging cyber talent High levels of emotional intelligence, with the ability to manage pressure, conflict, and high-severity situations effectively Receptive to constructive feedback, with the ability to adapt, improve, and continuously learn Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholders
