About the role

The Construction Manager provides leadership and manages the operational and scheduling aspects of solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) EPC projects and is the primary liaison with the client's site project team. This position is responsible for the comprehensive management of project scope, ensuring all construction activities align with strategic objectives and contractual requirements. The Construction Manager performs, facilitates, coordinates, and tracks all facets of the project to ensure a safe, quality, timely and efficient product through successful completion. This individual is responsible for managing and coordinating all project site activities from the mobilization stage through commercial operation. The Construction Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing all work performed by Subcontractors and EMC staff personnel. It is the responsibility of the Construction Manager to ensure the site-specific Project Execution Plan including, standardized work plans and methods are adhered to, safety and risk management policies are followed, daily and weekly schedule and financial information is reviewed with the site team. This position is expected to travel up to 100%. Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities: - Supports the Project Manager in making critical decisions on budgetary, schedule, or subcontractor related issues. - Oversees and directs daily construction operations on-site of the construction of the photovoltaic plant, aligning with the project's timeline and schedule objectives. - Participates in the upfront planning of the project and helps develop and ensure adherence to the project schedule including construction, testing, and commissioning with the project team. - Manages all stages of construction project, managing the project in technical terms (civil, mechanical and electrical), planning control, reporting verification, safety and quality adherence, and budgetary oversight. - Works with Project Manager and Superintendents to create a contingency plan, develop alternative work plans, and help the construction team overcome schedule constraints during the project construction. - Works with Project Manager on all aspects of project budget, productivity, and schedule. Facilitates understanding of construction budget and cost to the construction team and ensures the supervision understands and is actively managing against budget. - Maintains a direct relationship with the client, reporting project progress as the visible construction head of the project. - Communicate with the Project Manager on overall project status and provide input needed for improving safety, quality, scheduling, risks, opportunities, changes, and people. - Troubleshoot issues as they arise, evaluate alternatives, propose solutions, and gain construction team buy-in. - Management of the team in charge: Superintendents, Supervisors, Warehouse, Logistics, Administration, etc. We are looking for candidates who bring: - Self-perform construction leadership background. - Minimum 5 years of experience managing utility-scale renewable energy, heavy civil, industrial, or power construction projects. - Ability to interpret drawings of all three disciplines (civil, mechanical, and electrical). - Ability to assist/ train Subcontractors in scheduling, productivity, and task planning. - Proactive engaged leader capable of preparing subcontractor teams for milestone planning. - Utility-scale solar PV and/or BESS construction experience preferred. Experience on projects exceeding 30 MW strongly preferred. - Ability to travel and work at project locations through the United States for extended durations. Environmental Conditions: - Predominantly outdoor climate. - Exposure to: o Hot or cold weather o Humidity, rain, or other weather conditions o Loud noises caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc. o Potential exposure to chemical substances Physical Requirements: - Ability to walk long distances on active construction sites. - Ability to climb ladders and navigate uneven terrain. - Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varied weather conditions. - Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds. - Ability to wear required PPE and safely access all areas of a construction site. Mobility Barriers: - Uneven ground - Obstructed pathways - Work performed at low and/or high levels of elevations - Work performed in confined spaces Requirements and Conditions of Employment - Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to company insurance requirements. - Must successfully complete any required motor vehicle record (MVR) review, background screening, and employment verification processes, consistent with applicable laws. - Must comply with EMC Renewables Drug-Free Workplace Policy and any testing requirements permitted by law. - Must be able to meet customer, project site, and regulatory access requirements as applicable to the position
