About the role

We are seeking a Radiation Control Technician to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory ! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates complete understanding and broad application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field.
  • Maintains general knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Works within established priorities, procedures, processes, requirements, and specifications.
  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
  • Develops solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practical, and aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Receives general instructions for new assignments.
  • Reviews work occasionally for soundness of judgment, adequacy, and accuracy.
  • Contributes original work.
  • Provides radiological support at assigned Laboratory sites.
  • Conducts workplace surveillance and analyzes/interprets radiological data.
  • Provides operational health physics support in assigned facility, function, or area.
  • Reviews radiological work for proper controls and posting compliance with Laboratory requirements.
  • Assists and mentors employees in on-the-job training related to:
  • Radiation monitoring procedures
  • Contamination control
  • External exposure control
  • Emergency response
  • Radiation work permits
  • Facility design
  • Interfaces with emergency personnel or responds directly to radiation-related emergencies.
  • Works with health physicists to determine re-entry requirements.
  • Directs other RCTs in monitoring and handling contaminated personnel.

Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience - High School Diploma and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Experience working in high-hazard radiological environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection regulations, including 10CFR835.
