About the role
Part-Time (0.4 FTE/ 14 hours per week), Fixed-Term (36 months). Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Associate - Digital Practice in the Department of Drama, Theatre and Dance at Royal Holloway, University of London. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Horizon Europe-funded project CIVIC STAGE, led by Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL). The project brings together universities, public authorities, NGOs and umbrella organisations from across Europe and New Zealand to explore how participatory theatre and digital practices can equip young people to become active and engaged citizens. The 0.4 FTE nature of this post suits early career researchers seeking flexibility alongside other commitments. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience of large-scale collaborative research, international networking, and interdisciplinary knowledge exchange across theatre, education and digital innovation. Working closely with the Principal Investigator and the Royal Holloway research team, the post holder will contribute to transdisciplinary approaches combining theatre, citizenship education and digital innovation. Key responsibilities include: reviewing existing practices in citizenship education; developing training modules on media literacy and misinformation; integrating gamified and digital elements into educational resources for young people aged 15-29; conducting focus groups; supporting pilot activities and advocacy events; and disseminating findings through publications and presentations. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in theatre and performance studies, digital humanities, games and interactive media, media literacy, educational technology, participatory arts research, or related fields, who can demonstrate innovative approaches to engaging users through digital and gamified methodologies. You will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline or be close to completion, with expertise in research methods relevant to the project and knowledge of gamified approaches to theatre and/or education. Experience of collaborative research with cultural and educational organisations and co-designed stakeholder engagement is essential. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international, multi-agency environment, and experience of contributing to high-quality publications. Practical experience of developing gamified tools and training stakeholders in their use would be particularly welcome.
