Responsibilities
- The Expense Advisory team is a newly established function within Expense Management & Analysis, focused on improving the accuracy and consistency of expense coding and allocation decisions at the source.
- This role is not a traditional processing role - it is an analytical and advisory position that partners with expense owners, Fund Accounting, and corporate functions to ensure expenses are appropriately coded, allocated, and aligned according to policy and funds' governing documents.
- The Analyst will develop subject matter expertise across vendors, business activities, and allocation methodologies, and will play a key role in identifying and preventing errors before they propagate through the expense lifecycle.
- Typical responsibilities:
- Expense Advisory & Business Partnership
- Partner with expense owners and cost center administrators to provide guidance on expense coding and allocation
- AdviseAdvice on appropriate corporate vs fund treatment based on nature of spend
- Support resolution of complex or ambiguous expense scenarios
- Vendor & Expense Expertise
- Develop subject matter expertise on key vendors, services, and recurring expense types
- Document and maintain standardized coding and allocation approaches
- Identify inconsistencies and recommend improvements
- Fund Allocation & Policy Alignment
- Partner with Fund Accounting to understand fund expense allowability and strategy-specific nuances
- Support interpretation of fund governing documents as they relate to expense allocation
- Help ensure consistency in allocation instructions across similar scenarios
- Process Improvement & Rejection Reduction
- Analyze historical errors, rework, and Fund Accounting rejections
- Identify root causes and recommend solutions
- Support initiatives to reduce manual rework and improve first-pass accuracy
- Knowledge Base & Documentation
- Build and maintain centralized documentation of: supplier relationships

- Contribute to development of guidance materials for the broader organization
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience, preferably in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Accounting, or Master Data Management within the financial services industry, and preferably in the investment management industry
- Prefer experience within Public Accounting and Investment firms, preferably with a focus on consulting, audit and/or corporate finance functions
- Track record in business analysis and process improvement
- Strong analytical skills and ability to understand and resolve complex problems
- Experience working with judgment-based processes or ambiguous data
- Experience in stakeholder-facing roles
- Experience analyzing data to identify trends, inconsistencies, and root causes
- Expertise in Workday, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Power BI
