About the role

The Computational Scientist promotes machine and deep learning artificial intelligence (AI) research through Roswell Park and provides senior level AI technical expertise as required to facilitate demand within the Biomedical Research Informatics Shared Resource. Works in concert with other departments throughout the organization and serves as a subject matter expert in the area of ML/AI in oncology. Promotes engagement of the research community, facilitates oncology research, use-case development, assists with user support, developing, and delivering advanced training. This role is primarily centered on Clinical Natural Language Processing (NLP): developing, evaluating, and deploying methods to transform unstructured clinical text, radiology reports, and pathology reports into high-quality structured data for research use. This role provides technical leadership in clinical NLP workflows including named entity recognition, clinical concept normalization to standard terminologies, and semantic classification of concepts, documents, and events. Additionally, the position collaborates with clinical, informatics, data science, and information technology teams to design annotation strategies, build and benchmark models, support secure and compliant data pipelines, and translate clinical language data into actionable insights for oncology research. Starting annual salary is $129, 828 which includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Requirements
- Required Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field of science or engineering and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time work experience applying machine learning to real-world problems and with AI frameworks and data analytics; or
- Bachelor's degree in Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field of science or engineering and the equivalent of four (4) years of full-time work experience applying machine learning to real-world problems and with AI frameworks and data analytics.
