About the role

B Global Tech is a specialist consultancy delivering design, architecture, and Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) engineering for mission-critical data centre facilities. Headquartered in Barcelona, with offices in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and a newly established office in Japan. As one of our founding hires in Japan, the Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as the technical authority for all electrical engineering aspects of data centre projects in the Japanese market. The role requires deep expertise in high-voltage and low-voltage power systems, critical power infrastructure, and a thorough working knowledge of Japanese electrical codes, regulations, and utility frameworks - the essential "know-how in Japan" required to deliver compliant and reliable data centre facilities. Electrical Engineering & Design - Lead the end-to-end electrical design of data centre facilities including HV/LV power distribution, UPS systems, standby generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), switchgear, and busbar systems. - Develop single-line diagrams, load calculations, short-circuit studies, cable schedules, earthing and lightning protection designs, and electrical equipment layouts. - Design and specify critical power systems to meet Uptime Institute Tier standards, client reliability requirements and Japanese regulatory requirements. - Conduct power quality assessments, energy efficiency analyses, and PUE optimisation reviews. - Oversee BIM/CAD deliverables and ensure drawing accuracy, coordination, and compliance with B Global Tech's design standards. Japanese Regulatory Compliance (Know-how in Japan) - Ensure all electrical designs comply with the Electricity Business Act, Building Standards Act, Fire Service Act, and relevant JIS/JEC standards. - Manage the High Voltage Electrical Work permit process and liaise with TEPCO and other regional utilities for grid connection, capacity reservations, and inspections. - Coordinate with the Electrical Safety Inspection Corporation and relevant inspection authorities for commissioning approvals. - Advise on electrical contractor licensing requirements under Japanese law and review contractor qualifications accordingly. Construction & Commissioning Support - Provide technical guidance during procurement, construction and commissioning phases; review shop drawings, RFIs, and method statements. - Witness and review factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) for critical electrical equipment. - Support the preparation of O&M documentation, as-built drawings and handover packs. Collaboration & Leadership - Work closely with mechanical, structural and architecture teams across Barcelona HQ and APAC offices to ensure fully coordinated designs. - Support business development activities including technical proposals, client presentations and scope definitions. - Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building B Global Tech's engineering capability in Japan. Education & Certification - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline. - Japanese professional licensure is highly desirable: First-Class Electrical Work Technician, First or Second Class Electrical Engineer, or registered Professional Engineer (Gijutsushi) in Electrical & Electronics. - Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) or similar data centre certification is an advantage. Experience - 8+ years of electrical engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years specifically in data centre, mission-critical or large-scale commercial M&E projects. - Candidates must come from a consultancy background - prior experience working within an engineering design or technical consultancy firm is a mandatory requirement. - Demonstrated experience delivering electrical designs in Japan and strong working knowledge of Japanese codes, utility processes and local market practices. - Experience with HV systems (6.6 kV and above) in Japanese data centre or industrial facilities. Technical Skills - Proficiency in electrical design and analysis tools: AutoCAD, Revit MEP / BIM, ETAP or SKM PowerTools for power system studies. - Working knowledge of Uptime Institute Tier standards, IEC, and Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS/JEC). - Strong understanding of data centre power infrastructure including 2N, N+1 and concurrent maintainability concepts. Language & Soft Skills - Business-level Japanese (spoken and written) is essential for client, authority and contractor engagement in Japan. - Professional working English required for coordination with Barcelona HQ and APAC offices. - Strong communication skills; able to present complex technical matters clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
