  • JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares the hyperbaric chamber, equipment and materials for patients prior to treatment.
  • Operates, maintains and ensures the safety of hyperbaric treatment to the patient.
  • Explains purpose, procedure and safety measures of hyperbaric treatment to the patient.
  • Carries out hyperbaric oxygen treatment as prescribed by the physician.
  • Observes the patient throughout the course of the treatment. Provides clinical support and assists in the prevention and/or management of pressure related problems. Reports unusual occurrences to the physician and records patient's condition.
  • Keeps complete and accurate patient records as they pertain to treatment documentation.
  • Conducts pre and post dive checks of the chamber equipment. Monitors chamber operations throughout each patient treatment. Maintains operating, maintenance and safety logs and other required documentation.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the hyperbaric oxygen therapy equipment and performs preventative maintenance checks and services as outlined in the chamber maintenance handbook.
  • Conducts transcutaneous oxygen tension testing (TCP02) when ordered by physician.
  • Operates department photography equipment and maintains patient's photographic file.
  • Serves as the Hyperbaric Safety Officer:
  • Responsible for safe and effective operation, control and maintenance of the hyperbaric chamber systems and all supporting components.
  • Makes necessary recommendations for program safety policies and incorporates new safety procedures as appropriate.
  • Has the authority to restrict and remove any potentially hazardous supply or equipment items from the hyperbaric environment.
  • Serves as the program representative for chamber system maintenance and is the resource for resolving safety related issues for the Wound Center.
  • Provides leadership for technical personnel related to safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber system.
  • Ensures program compliance with requirements of NFPA 99, Ch.19, Pressure Vessel for Human Occupancy (PVHO) and all unit safety policies.
  • Serves as the program's technical representative and ensures that published preventative maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Reviews all program safety incidents, collects information regarding equipment and patient safety. Ensures proper training and diligence with patient pre-dive checklist.
  • Assists in developing and periodically reviews/revises program policy and procedure manuals.
  • Coordinates and approves all upgrades, modification and repairs to the chamber system, including the interaction with hospital engineering personnel and outside contractors. Maintains accurate documentation of all chamber maintenance.
  • Evaluates chamber equipment and supplies to ensure they meet hyperbaric safety requirements before they are permitted inside the chamber.
  • Serves as department technical trainer for staff. Provides in-services related to the appropriate aspects of hyperbaric physiology, decompression tables, equipment operations and safety, and treatment protocols. Must document all training and attendance.
  • Generates and supervises chamber drills for staff response to emergency operations. Ensures copy of emergency procedures is available and maintained in chamber room at all times. Conducts and documents emergency training.
  • Complies with department requirements for continuing education and maintains active participation in hyperbaric related organizations. Takes part in required Healogics training, competency assessments, and ongoing education as approved by Kaweah Health leadership.
