POSITION SUMMARY : The Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) supports the Boston Medical Center Health System (BMCHS) Facilities Department by developing, implementing, and maintaining industrial hygiene programs across BMC-South, BMC-Brighton, and associated satellite clinics. Reporting to the Executive Director of Facilities Management, the role conducts indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments, USP 797 sampling, exposure evaluations, and environmental monitoring to ensure a safe and compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The position operates with general supervision and collaborates closely with Facilities, Occupational Health, Infection Prevention, and departmental leadership. The CIH divides time between both campuses and may occasionally support BMC Main as needed. Position: Certified Industrial Hygienist Department: Real Estate and Facilities Schedule: Full Time ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES: Manages industrial hygiene programs by developing and maintaining system‑wide procedures, conducting exposure assessments, and overseeing air sampling, noise monitoring, and ventilation evaluations. Identifies and mitigates workplace hazards by evaluating environments for chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic risks; recommending engineering and administrative controls; and supporting infection prevention through environmental monitoring. Ensures regulatory compliance and accreditation readiness by maintaining documentation, preparing for surveys and audits, and implementing corrective actions aligned with federal, state, and local requirements. Supports Occupational Health and OSHA response activities by investigating exposures and injuries, developing corrective action plans with stakeholders, preparing documentation for OSHA inquiries, and analyzing trends to identify systemic risks. Conducts IAQ investigations by performing ventilation assessments, environmental monitoring, and root‑cause analyses; communicating findings to stakeholders; and recommending corrective actions to resolve and prevent IAQ concerns. Performs ergonomic assessments by evaluating workstations and job tasks, identifying musculoskeletal risk factors, recommending ergonomic improvements, and providing training to support injury prevention. Delivers industrial hygiene training and education by developing instructional materials, presenting safety topics such as chemical safety and respiratory protection, and collaborating with staff to reinforce safe work practices. Leads incident investigations and emergency response efforts by assessing occupational exposures, spills, and environmental incidents, and providing technical guidance during emergency situations. Coordinates industrial hygiene activities across campuses by maintaining a consistent presence at BMC‑South and BMC‑Brighton, standardizing procedures, and partnering with site leadership to address location‑specific needs. JOB REQUIREMENTS REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Occupational Health, or a related field and 3-5 years of industrial hygiene experience in healthcare, laboratory, or similar environments Or equivalent combination of education and experience. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in a related field and experience in hospital or accredited healthcare environments, including familiarity with Joint Commission standards. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS PREFERRED: N/A KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs): Knowledge of OSHA and healthcare regulatory requirements. Compensation Range: $78,000.00- $113,000.00 This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications.
