Responsibilities

  • Perform routine histology activities including wet tissue trimming, processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, and quality control on human and/or animal tissue samples.
  • Consistently generate high-quality histological slides.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and execute complex staining protocols for single and multiplex immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization techniques.
  • Consult relevant literature to understand the scientific purpose of assignments and contribute primarily through laboratory activities.
  • Learn and effectively implement new experimental protocols and techniques in collaboration with pathologists to address scientific questions.
  • Maintain and optimize laboratory equipment, operations, supplies, and reagents for efficient workflow.
  • Analyze, interpret, and evaluate results at each tissue processing step to ensure quality control and promptly recognize and report any experimental variances.
  • Prepare, section, and stain Tissue Microarray blocks.
  • Operate whole slide scanners to create and manage digital whole slide images.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with typically 3 or more years' experience OR Master's Degree (no additional experience)
  • HT (ASCP) certification preferred, though candidates with strong biology skills and a willingness to learn may be considered.
  • Histotechnologist (HT) certification preferred, with or without QIHC qualification.
  • Experience in immunohistochemistry (IHC).
  • Experience with in situ hybridization (ISH) preferred.
  • Applicable animal experience desired.
  • Ideally 3 or more years of experience within a histology or pathology laboratory in a GLP pharmaceutical company, CRO, hospital, or diagnostic setting.
