About the role
Full-time: 35 hours per week Fixed-term: for 32 months The Opportunity: The School of Engineering seeks to appoint a Research Fellow in IC Design and Testing for Emerging Memory Technologies. This Research Fellow position will contribute to the CHIMES Innovation Knowledge Centre within the Institute for Intergrated Micro and Nano Systems at the University of Edinburgh. This role is UE08 and is available on a fixed-term basis for up to 32 months. The appointee will support the delivery of the CHIMES Innovation Knowledge Centre (IKC) and specifically the work led by the University of Edinburgh in the development and provision of emerging semiconductor device technologies integrated with commercially available CMOS. This post will involve the development of thin-film nanoelectronic devices based on a range of metal-oxide technologies for novel memory-in-computing and emerging memory applications. These include designing device architectures and material stacks with standard cleanroom processes (lithography, magnetron sputtering, ALD, etc), analytical and morphological characterisation of developed films (such as XPS, SEM and AFM) as well as electrical characterisation of fabricated devices. Your skills and attributes for success: A PhD in in Electronics, Physics, Materials Science or a clearly related area, with a focus on semiconductor devices and/or thin films, or a closely related area or equivalent industry experience; Proven track record of research or industrial experience in electron devices development and testing; Experience in delivering research project results in heterogeneously integrated arrays as well as materials related to non-CMOS devices technology fabrication or a closely related area; i.e. a record of peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in a relevant area; Capable of working collaboratively with researchers from different disciplines or technical background; Capable of working independently, exercising a high degree of initiative and demonstrating a pro-active and flexible approach to work.
