Location: East Chicago, IN Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer at our East Chicago, Indiana location. Mechanical Engineers develop solutions and implement projects that improve the process and reliability for the plant, along with working collaboratively with our bargaining unit, operations teams, and outside contractors. We have multiple openings in the plant. Summary of Responsibilities Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. Possess the ability to work effectively within a team environment, utilizing clear and effective communication skills. Continuously improve equipment reliability through best maintenance practices. Perform detailed technical calculations pertaining to equipment and mechanical computations and communicate with team members to resolve any questions or issues as needed. Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance on equipment. Resolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action. Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports. Manage the planning, scheduling, and cost controlling of maintenance and engineering projects. Manage technical aspects of assigned projects in accordance with customer contract requirements, budget, and production schedule. Seek methods or procedures that reduce costs and/or increase production efficiencies. Complete project responsibilities for design, specification, review and development of mechanical equipment or systems. Analyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement. Supervise a crew of hourly maintenance employees, and uphold and enforce safety, environmental, job procedures, and maintain general discipline of the crew. Communicate with upstream and downstream operations and non-Cleveland-Cliffs contractors to coordinate work, deliveries, and service. Other duties as assigned
