Position Description The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time position as a Clinician-Teacher or Clinician-Investigator at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) based at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The Department of Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is a leader in academic medicine. The McGill University Health Centre is one of McGill's major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada's internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. The successful candidate will join the Geriatrics group, which consists of 11 full-time academic geriatricians and a Family Medicine member. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration. As a Clinician-Teacher, the successful candidate's major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching. As a Clinician-Investigator, you will focus on directing a research program of sufficient calibre to publish in peer-reviewed journals and obtain funding from peer-reviewed agencies. The candidate interested in a Clinician-Investigator position will be expected to devote between 25-50% of their time to research. Clinical responsibilities will include working as the consultant geriatrician in the emergency room and inpatient units, attending in outpatient clinics and taking evening and weekend on call duties in Geriatric Medicine across all the adult sites of the MUHC: Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal General Hospital and Lachine Hospital. The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill's academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees). All McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. Qualifications and Education Requirements Candidates must: H old an MD degree; Have completed specialty training in Geriatric Medicine; Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent); Be eligible for licensure in Quebec and certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec; Have completed, or intend to complete at least one additional year of clinical and /or research training or hold a MSc or PhD degree in a domain pertaining to aging and geriatrics; Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or must demonstrate a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
