About the role
WHAT DOES A UKOC CUSTOMS & EXCISE ADVISOR DO? The UKOC (Operations Centre) is responsible for the production and supply of Bacardi's Scotch Whisky and Gin, including DEWAR'S®, ABFERFELDY® and BOMBAY SAPPHIRE®. The Customs and Excise Advisor role is perfect for someone who wants to learn and gain knowledge in an ever changing and exciting function within the UK OC. You would be joining at a time when the markets and brands are growing, and you will be part of the team ensuring our incredible brands can reach those Global markets. You will be working with the C&E Manager and C&E Specialist to build out the UKOC knowledge, improve our processes and work closely with the Bacardi family across all regions. You will be able to have your input on strategy, suggested improvements, and support in continuing our excellent relationship with HMRC including our reporting needs. ABOUT YOU We are looking for a trusted advisor to be part of this growing team as well as the UK OC growth and be part of our experienced centralised team advising key stakeholders to our supply chain and innovation projects. This role will allow the successful candidate to grow within the Bacardi family, work closely with our UK teams, as well as embrace the experiences and knowledge we share with other Bacardi operation centers globally. You will require to be IT literate with ideally advanced Excel skills as well as exposure to SAP or similar ERP systems. A background in Trade Compliance, Logistics or Procurement is preferred, but excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and the passion to grow within the role and the Bacardi business is key. RESPONSABILITIES Work closely with the UK Customs & Excise Manager and Specialist to strengthen visibility and compliance across UK Supply, UK Distribution, and our Global Markets. Develop and expand your technical Customs & Excise knowledge to support the supply chain and ensure goods continue to move efficiently and compliantly. Review, maintain, and where necessary improve internal procedures, reporting processes, and HMRC compliance requirements, including but not limited to: Maintaining our AEO status Monthly HMRC reporting Supporting the supply chain team with HMRC‑related queries Conducting internal audits Reviewing Standard Operating Procedures Providing inventory management support Responsible for determining the correct: Customs classification of goods produced in the UK Non‑preferential origin of UK‑produced goods Preferential origin eligibility under UK Free Trade Agreements Excise duty classification for goods produced or imported into the UK Support UK Supply Chain, Planning, and Procurement teams in their communication with providers and customers to ensure alignment with HMRC regulations. Communicate with and support Bacardi Supply globally to strengthen relationships and ensure compliance across all Customs & Excise processes. Manage key Customs & Excise processes and priorities, including the HMRC mailbox, MSS data, HMRC reporting requirements (APPA, W1, W5D), and communication with brokers. Collaborate across all functional areas to raise awareness of C&E compliance risks and provide relevant training. Identify process gaps and drive improvements through legislative updates, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. Bring forward new ideas and ways of working to support duty reduction, cost avoidance, and wider business projects, ensuring products reach the market compliantly. Work with Supply Chain and Logistics teams to resolve documentation issues, including spending time in other business areas and sites to understand operational roles and integrate C&E requirements effectively. SKILLS & PERSONAL QUALITIES: To be successful in this role you will have / be: Proven knowledge or experience in Customs & Excise or Trade Compliance (essential). Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels. High IT literacy, including intermediate to advanced Excel skills and experience with business intelligence tools, ERP systems, or SAP . Experience working with HMRC (essential) and other UK regulatory bodies such as SDVS or SWA (desirable). Strong analytical and project‑management skills, with the ability to interpret business needs and translate them into meaningful reports. Understanding and experience of customs documentation creation (CDS-directly or via third‑party software), customs data, and UK excise duty rates. Ability to maintain an organised and accessible filing system for audit purposes. Experience working with Supply Chain and Logistics teams to resolve documentation issues. A sound understanding of SAP (desirable). Additional European language skills (desirable). Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
