Responsibilities

  • The primary focus for this hire is the modernisation of BTU's ETL pipeline - specifically around onboarding and transforming new energy data sources. In practice,
  • that means:
  • Re-engineering and extending ETL workflows across both on-prem (Wombat / prd-progs) and cloud (AWS) environments - these complement each other and
  • you'll be working across both
  • Managing and scaling a significant data ingestion operation - BTU processes data from 1,000+ sources, spanning a wide variety of vendors, formats, and
  • delivery mechanisms including portals, APIs, feeds, and file-based sources
  • Building greenfield pipelines where new data sources have no prior workflow - designing from scratch with scale and reliability in mind
  • Integrating AI-enhanced processes - the team is actively exploring agent-first architectures to handle automated pipeline breaks and enable self-healing
  • workflows, reducing manual intervention and building systems that fix themselves
  • Contributing to a team culture that leverages Claude Code as a standard engineering tool and treats automation of the repetitive and mundane as a first
  • principle - not an afterthought
  • Writing production-grade Python and SQL at the core of everything - not as supporting tools, but as primary engineering languages
  • Contributing to a team actively raising the bar on data quality, pipeline observability, and system reliability across the energy content stack
  • This is a role for someone who wants to work on real data complexity - energy datasets are niche, messy, and high-value. The engineering challenges here are not generic.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines and ETL processes, ideally with large datasets.
  • You're working in a Python/SQL-heavy data or backend engineering role at FactSet and want to go deeper into a specialised, high-value domain
  • You have experience with Wombat, Fonix, or prd-progs orchestration - that context is directly applicable and will accelerate your contribution from day one
  • You've worked on ETL pipelines, data transformation, or content engineering at scale and want to push that further in a cloud and on-prem hybrid environment
  • You're interested in agent-based and self-healing pipeline architectures - not theoretically, but as live engineering problems you'd be solving
  • You're already using or want to work somewhere that has fully embraced AI-assisted development with Claude Code as a standard part of the workflow
  • You want to work in a role where your output is directly visible in FactSet products used by clients every day
  • You have an interest in energy as a sector and want to build genuine domain knowledge alongside technical skills - O&G and Power & Utilities are among the most analytically rich verticals in the market
