This position is being offered as a temporary contract. Term 3 Years Job Description: Primary Purpose This position will work closely with the Head Coach of the Waterloo Warrior women's hockey program who is directly accountable to the Associate Director of Interuniversity Athletics. The position will assist in being responsible for the execution of a comprehensive plan to support all student-athletes on the women's hockey team. The incumbent will support and act in accordance with the strategic direction and initiatives of the Warriors Athletic & Recreation program and the University of Waterloo as they relate to student athlete development, recruitment, and mentorship, revenue generation and appropriate administrative responsibilities. In addition, the Associate Coach will ensure compliance with the OUA and U SPORTS rules and regulations. Key Accountabilities Student-Athlete, Staff and Team Performance - Ensures compliance of the Department student-athlete code of conduct. - Provides student-athletes with high quality sport experiences in an environment that pursues excellence in athletics and academics. - Assists in executing the philosophy and framework for operation of the athletic program. - Leads student-athletes, assistant coaches and high-performance support staff towards successful practice and competitive performances. - Assists in creating a strategic multi-year program plan that includes assessment and evaluation of staff, student-athlete and team performance. - Supports annual planning instruments outlining all elements of the student-athlete physical, emotional, competitive and academic success plan. - Works with Interuniversity staff to identify student-athletes at risk in academics or eligibility, provide direction for supports and resources where necessary. - Defining staff expectations for other coaches, mentorship of young coaches and assessment of outcomes. - Provides an inclusive and holistic environment for student-athlete development. - Encourages the pursuit of excellence in academics, athletics and personal development. Recruitment - Recruits student-athletes who will be successful both academically and athletically. - Creates and administrates a multi-year athlete recruitment program. - Maintains a highly developed recruiting network identifying and communicating with targeted student-athletes. - Establishes and communicates the team's recruiting philosophy and priorities with staff, scouts and recruiting network. - Maintains current knowledge of university, OUA and USPORTS admission and eligibility processes. - Leads the identification of student-athlete prospects. - Coordinates the creation and distribution of recruiting packages that includes university materials and team specific content. - Works directly with appropriate department staff to coordinate campus visits. Mentorship - Provides positive mentorship within an inclusive and holistic environment in accordance with the core values of the Athletics department - Outlines roles and responsibilities for coaches to foster professional growth. - Takes a leadership role in coordinating team meetings beyond the field of play (ex: Captains meetings, Leadership group meetings). - Networks and generates connections with minor sport programs and organizations in our community Participation with Department - Works with department supports to implement a student success plan for both academic and athletic success. - Attends department meetings when possible. - Works with Interuniversity Sport Manager, Student Athlete Services & Intercollegiate Coordinator, and Associate Director, Athletics on numerous areas including, but not limited to: o Recruiting and admissions o Housing and Residences o Events and facility scheduling o Travel o Student athlete registration and eligibility compliance - Works with Coordinator of Equipment Services to determine annual apparel order. - Works with Marketing team to create content and develop print / electronic materials for program promotions. - Communicates information from the department with athletes as needed. Completes OUA/USports requests (ex: All-Star nominations and All-Star voting, participates in annual OUA/USPORTS coaches meetings) Financ
