AECOM is actively seeking a talented CBTC System Engineer to join our World Class Rail Team in support of our New York Metro Region systems practice. The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work on projects to include Communication Based Train Control (CBTC), Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) System designs, communications designs in the support of projects and mega programs. Job Summary: The CBTC System Engineer will serve as the technical authority for the review, coordination, and oversight of all CBTC design and system integration activities. This position supports the agency by ensuring that the supplier's and designer's system architectures, interface definitions, and design deliverables comply with contract requirements, operational needs, and industry standards. The ideal candidate combines deep knowledge of CBTC hardware and software architecture with strong systems engineering and integration expertise. They will possess a strong knowledge of vital and non-vital hardware/software architectures, and a deep understanding of rail systems operations. They will guide requirement traceability, oversee design validation, and ensure the CBTC system supports safe, reliable, and maintainable rail operations across all program phases. Position Responsibilities: Provide technical leadership of the CBTC design and implementation process, ensuring compliance with Authority requirements, project standards, and best practices. Evaluate and guide system architecture decisions for CBTC subsystems, including vital/non-vital software, interlocking logic, ATS, telecoms, OCC, and train borne equipment. Collaborate with the requirements management team to ensure requirements traceability and validation across all subsystems and interface control points. Assess design impacts, risks, and dependencies across contracts; provide recommendations for mitigation and integration. Coordinate with operations, safety, and maintenance stakeholders to ensure the design supports operational efficiency, maintainability, and interoperability. Support and review the development of the System Integration Plan, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), and verification/validation documentation. Review and advise on system assurance, RAMS, and certification readiness deliverables. Provide guidance on traffic system interface and its implications for system integration and migration. Support coordination between the design, testing & commissioning, and safety certification teams to ensure seamless progression from design to validation. Track design maturity, configuration changes, and system readiness milestones, and report progress to the agency. Perform additional responsibilities as required to support technical reviews, stakeholder coordination, and program execution. Full understanding of vital and non-vital signal logic, relay-based control circuits, and their translation into CBTC subsystem software. Working knowledge of interlocking design, block layouts, overlap logic, and control line functions. Understanding of test sequencing, verification, and validation of signaling systems within mixed-mode operation.
