About the role
Applications are invited for an appointment as a full-time, permanent Lecturer in Civil Engineering, School of Engineering at University of Galway. University of Galway seeks to appoint an outstanding and ambitious individual with established expertise to capitalise upon and strengthen our international position in areas including building information modelling, digital and industrialised construction methods, design for manufacture and assembly, geomatics engineering, project management and related areas. This role will contribute to the University's leadership in Civil Engineering, Construction, Engineering Management and Infrastructure. It will deliver upon our commitment to ensure our graduates are equipped with the latest innovative technologies in the Civil Engineering sector. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing how these innovative tools, technologies and approaches are applied in practice in areas including: Digital and industrialised construction methods (e.g. modern methods of construction, design for manufacture and assembly, modular construction) Building and infrastructure and project management information systems (e.g. BIM, digital twins, data platforms) Geomatics, monitoring, and data capture from infrastructure assets Data-driven and physics-informed approaches to infrastructure design and operation Sustainable and climate-resilient infrastructure systems The successful candidate will make contributions to teaching, research, student project supervision, and programme administration across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Civil Engineering, Construction Innovation, Project and Construction Management and Engineering Management within the School of Engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to apply for major funding awards, for example from the European Research Council (ERC), Research Ireland and Horizon Europe, while building national and international collaborations with academia and industry. The successful candidate shall possess: A primary degree and a PhD qualification in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline. An ability to teach innovative approaches in areas such as building information modelling, digital and industrialised construction methods, design for manufacture and assembly, geomatics engineering, project management and related areas. Evidence of developing new and innovative research programmes, collaboration with established research centres and a clear vision for developing new research activity aligned with digital and industrialised construction and infrastructure innovation. An appropriate portfolio of peer-reviewed publications. A background in the application of sustainability and resilience thinking as applied to the design, construction and operation of the built environment. A history of working with industry, that would enable the delivery of the goals of this post across teaching and research and the broader goals of the School of Engineering.
