About the role
The Principal System Administrator (Unix Team Lead) is responsible for all the system administration of UNIX and LINUX servers, the integrity and performance of all the systems, and leading the technical activities for design and implementation of technical solutions for systems. Responsibilities
- To be responsible for system administration in Hong Leong Bank, Hong Leong Assurance and Hong Leong Investment Bank.
- To install and configure operating system for new UNIX and LINUX, reinstall and reconfigure for existing UNIX and LINUX servers when the operating system is compromised.
- To setup and maintain LDAP.
- To setup system parameters and configurations.
- To administer (which include upgrade/migration) all existing systems as needed to ensure secure, reliable and stable operation of the systems.
- To perform troubleshooting services to isolate, diagnose and fix problems related to system.
- To develop backup and recovery strategy for all systems.
- To develop capacity plans for all systems.
- To perform performance tuning and recommend application tuning where applicable.
- Quality Assurance
- To evaluate and determine if system patches and fixes for software compatibility, response time degradation, system crashes and other system operational problems.
- To review and approve technical solutions and configurations proposed by junior team members.
- Documentation
- To maintain an accurate record reflecting the current and historical system parameter and configuration setting (which will include system patches and fixes) including justifications for these settings and the configuration option decision making process.
- To maintain the backup and recovery procedures for all systems.
- To maintain the capacity plans for all systems.
- To ensure team-wide compliance with ITIL documentation standards and update knowledge base articles regularly.
- Management Reporting
- To provide report on system incidents and team resolution metrics.
- To provide statistic on the systems performance i.e. system load, response time and available disk space.
- To notify management about potential problems associated with the systems and resource bottlenecks within the team.
- Compliance & General
- To ensure security procedures and audit requirements are adhered to at all times by the entire Unix team.
- To escort and supervise all 3rd party computer service personnel who are attending to a service call and required to be in the Data Centre facility.
- To comply with BAFIA - Section 97(1) - Banking Secrecy whereby staff are prohibited from giving, producing, divulging, revealing, publishing or otherwise disclose, to any person, or make a record for any person, of any information or document whatsoever relating to affairs or account of customer.
- To maintain a clean desk.
- To participate in other working groups of small projects undertaken by the department on issues with regards to System Administration.
- To keep abreast with the latest development in the server, data storage and system environment.
- To respond promptly to user requests for technical assistance.
- Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:
- Recognized Degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent.
- At least 5-8 years of hands-on experience in System and Storage Administration, with a minimum of 2 years in a team lead or supervisory capacity.
- Advanced knowledge in AIX, Solaris, Redhat, Linux, LinuxSuse system administration including capacity planning and performance tuning (knowledge in NCR MP-RAS will be an added advantage).
- Knowledge in industry and professional standards (such as ITIL).
- Knowledge in LDAP.
- Excellent writing, problem-solving skills, and leadership capabilities.
- Certification/Licensing Requirements: Certification in System Administration preferred (e.g., RHCE). ITIL certification is an added advantage.
