Preservation Technician

About the role

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, St. Louis Preservation Program (RPXS). This lab is responsible for activities that prolong the usable life of archival records, minimize the physical and chemical deterioration of records, and prevent the loss of informational content. You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience for the GS-5: You must have at least one year of experience at the GS-4 level or equivalent that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience with techniques and procedures for the preservation of records. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following requirements, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F). Time-in-Grade: Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment. Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.
