About the role

Under the general direction of the Operating Room Nurse Manager, the orthopedic supply technologist is responsible for providing direct patient care in support of the hospital's orthopedic program. The orthopedic supply technologist works with surgeons, Operating Room personnel, Emergency Department personnel, and nursing staff and is responsible for the operation of surgical equipment, patient casting, the application of traction, and therapeutic equipment. Education High school diploma or equivalent(GED). Graduate of an accredited National Association of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT) school or a minimum of 2 years hospital experience as an orthopedic technologist. Certification, Registration & Licensure Certification required to obtain: BLS certification within 3 months. NBCOT certification preferred and completion of the Medical Technician Registration is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists orthopedic surgeons, clinical staff, and others as requested in applying and removing casts,
  • splints, and dressings.
  • Operates, supports, and maintains equipment according to established manufacturer's instructions, and
  • as requested by the operating surgeon. Ensures accurate and safe operation of Cell Saver and
  • Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) machines. Conducts inspection rounds of applicable patient
  • equipment.
  • Applies, operates, supports, and maintains traction equipment according to established manufacturer's
  • instructions and as requested by the operating surgeon.
  • Applies, operates, supports, and maintains HALO and immobilization equipment according to established manufacturer's instructions and as requested by the operating surgeon.
  • Articulates a basic understanding of anatomical structures and their relationship to one another as
  • applicable to the care of the orthopedic patient.
  • Assists nursing clinical staff in the care of the inpatient orthopedic patient population.
  • Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned.
