Our Croydon office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for over 75 years, mainly in the London and Southeast England but also throughout the UK and overseas. The team provides assessment, concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed designs on a wide range of schemes, either as standalone bridge commissions or as part of multidisciplinary major projects. Our clients are from the private and public sector and include long term Framework Agreements with numerous London and Southeast England Local Authorities together with Design and Build commissions for many major Contractors. What we'll be looking for You will have a sound knowledge of engineering processes for investigations, assessment, refurbishment, and design of transport structures including bridges. Comprehensive knowledge of constraints typically affecting existing and proposed structural assets. An understanding of structural mechanics and be familiar with industry-standard analysis software and be to check calculations are accurate and reliable. You will have practical experience of executing works on-site in a safe and productive way, including managing specialist subcontractors and access requirements. Running a small to medium sized team to ensure delivery high quality reports and drawings with an understanding of budget and schedule prioritization, participating in interdisciplinary reviews when required. You will work under the supervision of director-level team members to manage a variety of work packages, trusted to meet with clients and make decisions. You will work alongside a broad diversity of team members and in a diverse range of environments in the UK, with potential for projects in other countries. Job Responsibilities: Take a leading role in the implementation of health & safety and wellbeing best practice into the delivery of all works. Act as a technical lead for the delivery projects. Lead, line manage and develop a delivery focused team of Engineers and Technicians. Act as Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) to trainees working towards Chartership and support graduates within the team Secure and deliver works to new and existing clients. Project management of schemes including client reporting, programming, resource planning and commercial management. Come grow with us. Ready to push the limits of what's possible? Here's what you'll need: Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent. Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers. Commitment to working a minimum of 2 days per week in our Croydon Office. Proven assessment/design and project management experience. Strong technical skills in bridge engineering and a keen commitment to quality with a 'right first time' approach to your own work. Good working knowledge of structural Eurocodes, National Highways (DMRB & MCHW) and Network Rail standards. Good working knowledge of structural analysis software - Lusas, MIDAS, Sofistik or SBD preferred. Experience in the production of calculations/drawings, risk assessments, specifications and reporting; as well as interdisciplinary review on multi-discipline projects (through e.g. a good understanding of the key interfaces with road and rail).
