Role Summary: The Mechanical Engineer I supports the design, documentation, testing, and integration of mechanical systems for unmanned aerial platforms. This role contributes to the development of airframe structures, assemblies, and tooling, with exposure to design for manufacturability and structural performance. This position is well-suited for an early-career engineer who demonstrates strong initiative, a willingness to learn, and a team-first mindset. The engineer works under guidance from senior team members while building technical depth, contributing to team success, and developing sound engineering judgment in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Essential Responsibilities: Support the design and documentation of airframe structures, assemblies, and tooling under the guidance of senior engineers. Assist with refining CAD models, drawings, and analyses to meet performance and manufacturability requirements. Participate in prototype builds, demonstrating a proactive willingness to learn and contribute hands-on. Seek feedback on designs and incorporate guidance to improve technical quality and execution. Support integration of mechanical components into airframe assemblies under guidance. Assist with test setups, fixture preparation, and execution of validation procedures. Document results clearly, escalate issues appropriately, and contribute to readiness reviews. Demonstrate awareness of how work impacts other teams and overall system performance. Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing staff to support design and build activities. Approach teamwork with respect, openness to input, and willingness to support others' success. Communicate clearly and constructively across functions, adapting style to the audience. Actively look for opportunities to improve processes, documentation, and team efficiency. Participate in team reviews and apply feedback to continuously improve work quality. Complete assigned project tasks within defined cost, schedule, and quality parameters. Take ownership of assigned work and follow through reliably on commitments. Provide clear and timely updates to project engineers and support progress tracking. Contribute to project success by following engineering processes and raising risks early. Support subsystem documentation, prototype builds, and test readiness activities. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Experience: Required: Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field. Experience: 0-2 years of mechanical engineering experience; internships, co-op work, or academic projects in related areas are accepted, preferably in UAV, aerospace, defense, or other complex hardware development environments. Demonstrates curiosity, strong work ethic, and a desire to take on new challenges; seeks opportunities to contribute beyond assigned tasks and continuously develop skills. Open to feedback, willing to learn from others, and values team success over personal recognition; shows respect for diverse perspectives and contributions. Communicates effectively, collaborates across functions, and understands the impact of their work on teammates and program outcomes. Foundational knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, CAD modeling, and documentation standards. Effectively manages priorities and meets deadlines with guidance. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and able to navigate basic digital documentation and engineering workflows. Preferred: Exposure to composite materials, airframe structures, or lightweight mechanical systems Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and drafting standards Experience with common CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or Creo) Hands-on prototyping, shop, or lab experience Physical Requirements: Ability to perform work in both office and light industrial/laboratory environments.
