Assistant Retail Manager

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily butchery operations, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to quality standards.
• Cut, trim, debone, and prepare meats (beef & lamb) to specifications when required.
• Ensure all meat products are stored, handled, and displayed in compliance with food safety regulations.
• Supervise, train, and mentor butchery staff to maintain skill standards and service excellence.
• Monitor inventory levels, manage stock rotation, and assist with ordering to ensure consistent product availability.
• Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and safety across workstations, tools, and equipment.
• Assist in implementing cost control measures and minimizing product waste.
• Support the Butchery Manager in scheduling, reporting, and driving sales initiatives.
• Provide expert recommendations to customers on cuts, preparation, and cooking methods, enhancing the overall shopping experience.
• Step up to lead the department in the Manager's absence.

Requirements

• Prior experience in a butchery environment, with supervisory or team lead experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of meat cuts, quality standards, and preparation techniques.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
• Ability to manage staff scheduling, training, and performance effectively.
• Strong commitment to hygiene, safety, and operational excellence.
• Physically fit and able to handle the demands of a butchery environment (lifting, equipment handling).
• Certification in food hygiene and safety.
