About the role
In this role, you will work on the production of West of Centre and its content on all platforms. This team will work in close partnership with CBC Alberta, ensuring the needs of Alberta and national CBC audiences are met through this programming. You're responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: Producing of a weekly Alberta-based news and politics show with a presence on multiple platforms, including but not limited to podcasting and digital audio Strategizing around the best use of video and social content to grow the audience for the show Ensuring the best mix of episode topics, treatments and guests Overseeing the work of producers and contributors in different roles Creating uniquely Canadian news content that will soar in a crowded podcast and broadcast environment Vetting scripts and episodes Ensuring best practices for podcast packaging and promotion are maintained Writing and structuring episode scripts as needed Presenting content on-mic as needed Liaising with in-house Audience Growth, MarComms and Publicity teams to understand how the content you contribute to can be best amplified for Canadian audiences Casting and coaching on mic-talent including hosts and storytellers Editing, mixing and publishing weekly podcast episodes Providing notes and feedback on complex episode mixes Making data driven decisions about editorial focus, packaging and promotion Executing CBC News Podcasts & Audio's' strategy for creating multiplatform content that centres Canadian audiences, Canadian perspectives and CBC's journalism and journalists About You: You have a track record of producing audio storytelling and are knowledgeable and passionate about the podcasting industry You have at least 5 years experience working on audio programs (news or current affairs, long form, serialized, talk or panel based), including at least 2 years in a positi

Unposting Date: 2026-06-12 11:59 PM CBC News Podcasts and Audio is looking for an Alberta-based Senior Producer with experience in news, political coverage, podcasting and broadcasting. This position will support West of Centre, and requires advanced knowledge of Alberta politics as it fits within the national political context, as well as team leadership experience, podcast, radio and audio production and development skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross functional teams across the CBC news ecosystem. The work is key to the CBC News Podcasts & Audio's mission - to create and amplify CBC's journalism in the audio space. This is a 12-month position, which can be based in either Calgary or Edmonton, which will entail full time work, Monday to Friday, and primarily daytime hours but with flexibility required for working with team members coast-to-coast, and to respond to breaking news developments. About CBC News Podcasts & Audio: We work with CBC News teams across the country to help support local always-on podcasts, network audio, radio and video teams with a presence in digital audio, and to create and develop original news podcasts and programming for Canadian audiences. We work in deep collaboration with all CBC Newsrooms, CBC News Audience Growth Department, and the CBC Podcast Audience Growth Hub to create audience-first content, and build best practices and skills around digital audio and audience growth throughout all of CBC's news teams.
