About the role

This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent serves as a Visual Information Specialist performing a wide variety of multimedia functions to support JSSSO with responsibility to plan, develop, administer and coordinate assigned digital printing and conventional printing projects. You may qualify at the GS-11, if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service: Understanding visual arts methods, techniques, and materials and the subject matter to be depicted in translating spoken or written descriptions of items, processes, issues, concepts and ideas into visual designs without benefit of existing pictures, models, or diagrams; Applying a variety of design matters to include size, layout, kind and quality of materials, medium, color schemes, typography, lighting effects, specific visual elements of materials to be incorporated, or reproduction methods; Producing detailed visuals and technical illustrations; Recognizing computer hardware and a variety of software packages to manipulate and best present the JS customer's message; Identifying printing processes to include four color process printing, digital technology both in printing, and pre-press operations and press sheet inspection techniques. B. Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a Major Field of study: Commercial Art, Fine Arts, Art History, Industrial Design, Architecture, Drafting, Interior Design, Photography, Visual Communication, or other fields related to the position; OR C. You have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and you have more than one year but less than two years of education as described in B. You have computed the percentage of the requirements that you meet, and the total is at least 100%. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.) You must also meet the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for this series: Education:Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR Experience: Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.
