The Sydney School of Health Sciences is in a period of exciting and significant investment by the Faculty of Medicine and Health. In order to deliver on the University's ambitious strategic plan, we are seeking academics and professionals who are passionate about improving health outcomes and/or health equity in the local, national and global communities, who are committed to research, and are team players, ready to contribute across the broad field of academic activities. The University is seeking to employ a Research Fellow (Level B) to join the team of Prof. Steve Kamper and team in MMFF funded medical research study - Pain Smart. The aim of the study is to estimate the effect of a pain education module plus (for those reporting significant musculoskeletal pain) or individualised support to students attending secondary schools. This is a study led by a team from the University of Sydney and is a Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) supported by the Australian Government. Prof. Kamper and team have developed a pain education module and tailored biopsychosocial care for those who experience significant musculoskeletal pain. Your key responsibilities will be to: conduct research, scholarly or professional activity, independently or as part of a team, contributing to discipline knowledge develop and refine independent research skills under the supervision of more senior academic staff (with an increasing degree of autonomy) ensure quality, standards and excellence are maintained in any research activities and output provide informal mentoring and advice to students and other staff within discipline (where appropriate) maintain an understanding of the University's strategic agenda and contribute to furthering that agenda contribute to the strategic direction of the Faculty/School/Portfolio as articulated through the Faculty/School/Portfolio's Strategic Plan/s or equivalent contribute to project design, and ethics applications, grant and funding request preparation, and reporting of findings oversee consumer engagement activities undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required. About you PhD completed or nearing completion in a relevant area of adolescent musculoskeletal pain Evidence of experience with research in high schools Experience with managing consumer engagement in research activities current registered and clinically practicing health professional excellent attention to detail, organisational ability, and record-keeping skills with a high level of motivation, initiative, and problem-solving skills inquisitive nature and strong desire to develop new ideas and research directions, aimed towards making high-impact findings and developing a research career excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively record of first-author publications.
