Located in the kitchen of Union South and under the general supervision of the Food Service Supervisor and Sous Chef, this position is responsible for cooking and preparing our catering orders for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as other departmental needs. In this position you will: Be responsible for safe and efficient food production Gain experience by being part of a nationally recognized, award-winning team. Work alongside other full-time food service professionals and part-time students to achieve the common goal of being the premier food venue for the University of Wisconsin. Work directly with students to train and develop them according to area goals The successful person in this role will be ready to learn, be able to collaborate with other departmental teams, be a team player, be able to multitask, and be a good communicator. Physical Demands: Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds occasionally needed. Ability to be on your feet for long periods of time. Ability to work in cold and hot environments. Work Schedule and Location: Main work location is in the beautiful Union South Building. Work hours to start will be Tuesdays through Saturdays; 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Work schedule may be adjusted to meet business needs. Key Job Responsibilities: Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas Greets customers, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation and associated activities Trains and guides student workers Department: Wisconsin Union, Dining & Hospitality, Culinary, Union South Kitchen
