About the role

The Pump Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and overhauling power generations pumps within nuclear power facilities. This role supports machine shop scheduling ensuring the reliability and performance of critical rotating equipment. The position requires strong mechanical expertise, precision measurement skills, and strict adherence to quality assurance. ONSITE ROLE: This position is based on site at the Lark facility in Mount Holly, North Carolina. This is not a travel-based position.

Responsibilities

  • Overhaul safety-related pumps including RHR, CCW, Service Water, Charging, Condensate, and Feedwater systems.
  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, and rebuild vertical and horizontal centrifugal pumps in accordance with OEM specifications.
  • Perform precision measurements of shafts, sleeves, wear rings, and bearing fits to verify tolerances and component condition.
  • Install, set, and verify mechanical seals during pump rebuild activities.
  • Troubleshoot seal failures and pump performance issues during maintenance.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings and OEM technical manuals to guide repair and maintenance work.
  • Complete work package records in accordance with shop standards.
  • Maintain strict Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) practices.
  • Experience / Required Qualifications
  • Journeyman Millwright or Industrial Mechanic certification, or equivalent hands-on mechanical experience.
  • Extensive experience performing maintenance, inspection, and rebuilding rotating equipment and industrial pumps.
  • Demonstrated experience installing and setting mechanical seals during pump overhaul activities.
  • Strong understanding of pump hydraulics, pump curves, and rotating equipment performance principles.
  • Experience with disassembly/inspection/repair of rotating equipment including vertical, horizontal, multistage pumps, fans, compressors, etc.
  • Power generation plant experience in rotating equipment maintenance
  • Experience - Nice to Have
  • Prior experience performing pump overhauls.
  • Rigging certification or experience supporting heavy equipment lifts.
