Patient Advocate (Part Time) | Safe Harbor Recovery Center | Portsmouth, Virginia About the Job: PURPOSE STATEMENT: The Patient Advocate promotes and protects client rights by facilitating the complaint and grievance process, escalating unresolved client safety concerns to appropriate staff, and serving as the primary point of contact for concerns related to client experience, including customer service, communication, personal belongings, physical environment, and client rights. Partners with department directors and staff to ensure timely and effective resolution of issues. Roles and Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Serves as a liaison between clients, families, advocates, and the facility. Ensures concerns and grievances are received, documented, investigated, and resolved in a timely manner in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements. Collects relevant information, interviews involved parties, and reviews medical records as part of the investigative process. Maintains accurate and up-to-date complaint and grievance logs and documentation in the facility's electronic incident and risk management system. Reports concerns and grievances to the Quality/Risk Management department and collaborates with facility leadership to ensure timely resolution and communication. Identifies and reports process deficiencies that may impact client rights or safety. Escalates high-risk, safety-related, or unresolved concerns to appropriate leadership or governing committees. Supports quality improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives as needed. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate or Bachelor's degree in a clinical field preferred. Experience in customer service or risk management preferred. Experience with behavioral health patients preferred. LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS: CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility). First aid may be required based on state or facility. WORK LOCATION: This position is onsite and is not a remote position. SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS: This position is an Individual Contributor.
